Hoodie Allen: James Franco (Music Video)

Posted: 27 Oct 2011 09:31 AM PDT

Back in July when Hoodie Allen released Leap Year, he let the fans decide which videos they wanted to see off the project. Overwhelmingly, people wanted to see visuals for the song "James Franco" so he made the trip out to Los Angeles to shoot this in an effort to find the man behind the song…turns out he wasn't too hard to find.

Leap Year is without question one of my top three favorite compilations of 2011. Ask any one of my close friends who can all recite the lyrics now due to my incessant playing. If you haven’t yet downloaded this free mixtape, then by all means click here.

The Soundmen: Mile High Club (Live Set)

Posted: 27 Oct 2011 09:05 AM PDT

As anyone who has made a 5+ flight to anywhere knows, closed cabin induced claustrophobia can bring on ADD, so to pass the time your idle hands need to find something to keep them busy. Scott of The Soundmen found one hell of a way to pass the time, creating a live DJ set while coasting above the US at a mile up. If transcontinental flight was still as posh as it was in the 60′s, Scott would have been playing this in the lounge for everyone to enjoy, rather than his own private show in the sky.

Take a listen and try to spot your favorite tracks, from the intense M83 intro the sound just keeps bumping from there to the end. Blending that cool, confident rhythm The Soundmen have trademarked, with high energy dance beats, dancehall swagger and indie intensity. The 11:47 mark is where anyone sitting next to me on the plane would start giving me odd looks as I danced in my seat! Happy Thursday everyone!

The Jezabels: Endless Summer

Posted: 26 Oct 2011 12:57 PM PDT

The Jezabels are the quartet consisting of lead singer Hayley Mary, keyboardist Heather Shannon, guitarist Sam Lockwood, and drummer Nik Kaloper, all hail from the land of Oz. The four meld far flung musical tastes and styles to create a rich, dark indie sound full of big sweeping chords and pounding kick drums that at times echoes the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Pat Benatar and the epic power-pop rock that Australia has trademarked. ‘Endless Summer’ is the lead single off their first LP Prisoner and chocked full of pounding drum beats, powerful vocals, and addictive beats and epic hooks.
