Jonny Litten – Ratuir

Posted: 24 Oct 2011 11:21 PM PDT

Jonny Litten’s “Ratuir” is a journey through a colorful scheme of feelings, stirred with big beats and looped vocals. Would it make sense to say that it sounds like Ratatat mixed with a filtered Explosions In The Sky? Maybe not, but give it a try.

It’s from his free EP, Carnival. Download it at bandcamp.

Vanaprasta – Nine Equals Nine

Posted: 24 Oct 2011 10:56 PM PDT

Vanaprasta are a band from Silverlake, California who have done wonders with their track “Nine Equals Nine”. Imagine a haunted, more dramatic, electronic version of King Of Leon. Sounds weird, I know, but don’t tell me that you’re not curious to hear what they sound like.

They have a big sound that’s just waiting to be heard. If all goes well, these guys will be playing in proper venues, that will allow them to spread there wings and truly dominate the airwaves.

“Nine Equals Nine” is on the bands debut album, Healthy Geometry, out on November 1st via Baeble Music (pre-order it here).

Download it below:

Ever since seeing Caveman at CMJ, I can’t stop watching their performance of “Great Life” for the wonderful Yours Truly. Surprised I didn’t find an mp3 of the performance, so I took the liberty of ripping it for you guys.

Here’s the performance if you have yet to see it. It’s quality rivals The Morning Benders performance of “Excuses”. Grab an mp3 after the jump:

[music video]: Cashier No.9 – Oh Pity

North Ireland director Gregg Houston, a.k.a as babysweet showed me the music video he shoot for Belfast band Cashier No.9. The video is for their song “Oh Pity”, which is pretty great. Think of all the best 90s brit-rock bands throw together with a side of psychadella, and you got “Oh Pity”.

The song is from their debut album, To The Death Of Fun, out now via Bella Union.

[new]: The Vaccines – Tiger Blood

“Tiger Blood” is a new song from The Vaccines that Albert Hammond, Jr. produced for them. The band recorded it in his studio in upstate New York and it has a big fat Strokes influence all over it. It’s the b-side to the bands 7″ single release of “Wetsuit”. Give it a try below:

[new]: Mazzy Star – Common Burn

Just a few hours ago we heard a new song from Mazzy Star titled “Lay Myself Down”, the b-side to their new single, “Common Burn”. Now here we are, and the single has surfaced. Someone noticed that the single was on spotify, and promptly ripped the song. It’s great quality.

It’s a warm track that shines with a warm alt-country grow. It’s everything that Mazzy Star fans could’ve hope for and more, especially after 15 long years of waiting for new material.

[watch]: Arcade Fire Perform “Helpless” With Neil Young

Arcade Fire and Neil Young came together to perform a duet of Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young’s “Helpless” at the Bridge School Benefit Concert. It’s a concert series that Young and his wife Pegi have held for the past 25 years in order to raise money for The Bridge School in California.

[Introducing]: The Smiling Lies

You may remember an act called The Van Goghs that I posted a little while back. The York, Pennsylvania band have now changed their name to The Smiling Lies due to a name situation. They still deliver the same rocking tunes, just with a different identity.

Earlier this month they released a mini album called Say Yes?, which is available to buy at iTunes. Head to their reverb nation page or youtube page to check out all of their tunes.

Find the band on facebook as well. Check out one of my favorite tracks from them, “Space Elevator”:

Azealia Banks – 212

Posted: 24 Oct 2011 07:00 AM PDT

These days I seem to be getting hungrier and hungrier for great dance stuff. Whether it be a hybrid or straight up electro, dance influenced music is getting a lot of love from me.

I would like to make sure that you’re aware of Azealia Banks. She’s a 20-year-old lyricist from Harlem, NYC who is going to shoot up the ranks pretty soon. Her incredible “212″ is a drunk anthem waiting to happen. If this doesn’t become a staple of all the clubs, then they’re doing something wrong. It’s a good mix and match of rap and dance, with flirtations of r&b. It’s just as awesome as it sounds.

This is how you make a name for yourself. Excited to see what else this young lady pumps out:
