Jamie Lynn Spears Prepares for Country Music Debut in 2012 Posted: 02 Jan 2012 03:46 PM PST Even though RCA’s Joe Riccitelli confirmed that Britney‘s taking a break in 2012 to spend some time away with her family, that doesn’t mean we won’t be graced with the Holy Spearit–it’s just coming from a different Spears: Jamie Lynn! Over four years after Brit Brit’s younger sister quietly slipped away in 2008 to give birth to her daughter at age 16, baby Spears is finally stepping back into the spotlight. Although rumors have swirled since early 2009 of an upcoming country music debut for Jamie Lynn, including an interview with country singer-songwriter Pam Tillis from September confirming that the two were writing in the studio together, there hadn’t been any actual signs of new music…up until now. The first came in early November, when Jamie Lynn hit the stage at The Rutledge in Nashville to perform an intimate showcase of brand new music in front of friends and family. She then resurfaced the following week for a surprise performance at Puckett’s in Tennessee, where she again performed her original songs (watch this clip from the crowd, including the one below.) Most recently, People Magazine published a behind-the-scenes clip of their upcoming photo shoot with Jamie Lynn in Nashville on December 31, where the soon-to-be songstress discussed her upcoming music and her relationship with her now 3 1/2-year-old daughter. “As long as my world can still revolve around her, then the rest will just fall into place. That’s what I think has been very organic and perfect about my music,” she explains during the shoot. While it’s been a slow build until now, it seems Jamie Lynn’s debut is officially approaching shortly. Now, I won’t lie–country is far from my favorite musical genre (let’s face it, it’s my very least)–but I’m willing to overlook that fact if the songs are well-crafted and the singing is pleasant. Judging by the clips above, she’s got a good voice–which means the studio output is probably even better. Plus, I’m always here to support anything Team Spears. So come on and bring on the new tunes, Jamie Lynn! |
Please Stop Your Whole Entire Life For This Photograph of Sky Ferreira Dressed Up As Madonna Posted: 02 Jan 2012 11:19 AM PST This is both real and happening: Sky Ferreira is posing as Madonna for the upcoming Music Issue of V Magazine, shot by fashion photography legend Mario Testino. And as she told me on Twitter, there will be 14 more shots: “True Blue & Blonde Ambition.” No big deal or anything. It’s just, you know… FUCKING EVERYTHING!!!!!! |
Listen to Oh My!’s New Track, “Bad Date” Posted: 02 Jan 2012 10:30 AM PST And now for something I wouldn’t wish upon my most mortal enemy in 2012: A bad date! We’ve all been there: You’re having a classy first date at Applebees with this sort-of-cute guy you met on OKCupid, and then he tells you that he has a boyfriend already, three children, and that you need to foot the bill for the 2-for-$20 dinner because he’s saving his money as bail for his grandmother because “well, grandpa had it coming anyway.” Judging by the girls’ surging new uptempo, it seems the frisky electro-pop femmes of Oh My! haven’t quite found their “Dirty Dancer” either: The girls rattle through about a bazillion delightfully hilarious bad qualities (“Stalking Stanley/Tall but not manly!”) and bad situations (“He left a tab in my name at the bar”) before coming to a very astute conclusion: “This is a bad date!” Well, here’s the good news: This may be a bad date, but it’s far from a bad song. The sizzling track was produced by DJ Michael Woods (responsible for that gorgeous new Little Boots cut, “I Wish”) and Amir Amor (responsible for that gorgeous new Diana Vickers cut, “Kiss Of A Bullet”), which is probably why the beat is oh so BANGIN’. Oh, and that beat drop of a chorus? It’s somethin’ fierce! So remember friends: The next time you find yourself on a bad date, just kindly excuse yourself from the bar/table/backseat of the car and simply say that you’ve recently discovered that you’re pregnant. Then listen to “Bad Date” on repeat all the way home! “Bad Date” was released on January 1. (iTunes UK) |
Scissor Sisters Premiere New Single Featuring Azealia Banks: “Shady Love” Posted: 02 Jan 2012 06:09 AM PST Shady Love (Clean) by Scissor Sisters Official Ladies and ladyboys: It’s time to get a little shady! Just minutes ago, disco-pop dance outfit Scissor Sisters premiered their brand new track on BBC’s Radio 1: “Shady Love” featuring Krystal Pepsy–otherwise known as the DJ duo between Sisters frontman Jake Shears & Jeremy Lingvall–and Azealia Banks, a rising 20-year-old NYC rapper (and one of the BBC Sound of 2012‘s more exciting shortlist picks.) In true SS fashion, the boys (and girl!) have gone and tweaked their sound ever-so-slightly again. Most notably? There’s rapping! That’s right–Jake Shears is spittin’ it quick in the verses (who thought he’d ever be a spitter?), sounding like a cross between Cazwell and Justin Timberlake: “She gon’ vote for Obama and she likes to dance to Madonna/Chops it like Benihana, so mm mmm, mm mmm!” Shears freestyles alongside Banks. The Boyz Noise-produced song also sees the group moving away from the ’70′s-encrusted Studio 54 stomp of their 2010 studio masterpiece Night Work and moving into the 21st century with thick, gritty House synthesizers and frantic electronica. Fear not: The glittering melodies are still pure disco realness, but the sound is something much more eclectically electric. Oh, and that mini sitar breakdown about 3 minutes in? Just wicked! Just as quickly, the group also premiered the official video for the track on NME this morning, which is more or less the kind of fierce performance piece I used to dream about staging as a wee gay boy in middle school–flashing lights, confetti and all. Get it! What a way to kick off 2012! I’m loving the new sound so far. Now bring on the fourth Sisters effort! “Shady Love” premiered on Radio 1 on January 2. (iTunes) |
