Grimes – Genesis

“Geneisis” is a track from Grimes upcoming album, Visions. She just announced that she signed with 4AD, who will release the LP on February 21st.

“Genisis” is a journey through lush textured soundscapes that will leave you in awe. It soars high with a big beat and a star gazing tempo. Is she taking over for Bat For Lashes? Maybe.

Download it below.

[new]: of Montreal – Dour Percentage

“Dour Percentage” is a new of Montreal song taken from their upcoming album, Paralytic Stalks.

of Montreal are on point on “Dour Percentage”, hitting that signature sound right on the bulls-eye. A funky beat groomed with those ever so familiar vocals. Paralytic Stalks is sounding pretty damn good so far.

It’s out February 7 via Polyvinyl. Grab a mp3 download below.

[watch]: Sharon Van Etten – Serpents (Live On Fallon)

Sharon Van Etten made her network television debut count. She played a devastatingly great version of “Serpents” the other night for Jimmy Fallon. The National’s Aaron Dessner helps her out, playing guitar. It’s a must watch. Sharon is headed towards bigger things, thats for sure.

If your the son of Wilco’s Jeff Tweedy, your genes are certainly blessed with talent. Tweedy’s son Spencer directed a music video for Wilco’s “Whole Love” featuring younger brother Sammy and their friends Joey & Tavi. It’s an adorable video, something that both Jeff and Spencer should be proud of.

La Sera, a.k.a Katy Goodman of Vivian Girls is back with a new album titled Sees The Light. Hardly Art will release it on March 27th.

To get the people going, they have released lead single, “Please Be My Third Eye”. It’s got that sunny Calfironia pop magic working at it’s side, making it as memorable as your best summer day. Download it below.

[new]: Lana Del Rey – National Anthem // This Is What Makes Us Girls

Posted: 06 Jan 2012 12:57 PM PST

So if your like me, you fell in love with Lana Del Rey after hearing “Videogames”. That throwback sound really did it for me. However, there’s plenty of signs pointing to the fact that the rest of her debut album, Born To Die, isn’t going to be much like the much famed single.

Over the last few days two new songs have leaked. The first was “National Anthem”, the second was “This Is What Makes Us Girls”. Both are straight up pop affairs that sound a little bit like Lily Allen (who I’m a fan of).

“National Anthem” has a hip-hop flavor going on that is pretty cool, but I’m not too hot on “This Is What Makes Us Girls” right now. Remember, these are just leaks and there’s always the chance that things may sound somewhat different on the big release.

Stream both tracks below.

Here’s the list you all have been waiting for (top albums of the year can be found here). It’s 100 of my favorite songs of the year. The term “best” doesn’t leave much room for objectivity, and favorite sounds a lot more personal. I didn’t have the heart to limit these great songs to a list of just 25-50 because there’s simply too much good stuff out there. Take some time, download the mix, put it in iTunes and give it a spin.
