Analog Players Society featuring Cecilia Stalin “I Can’t Wait (Nu Shooz Cover)” Posted: 04 Jan 2012 08:11 PM PST Keeping the ’80′s disco flag waving, here’s another nice old-school-tweaked treat, this time from New York City collective Analog Players Society pulling off a cover of Nu Shooz’ 1986 freestyle favorite “I Can’t Wait”…done island style. More often than not you can’t go wrong with putting a reggae-ish twist on something, and what the cats in APS do here is definitely all kinds of right, their rich, live instrumental soundbed (including trumpets, saxophone, bass, organ and hand percussion) paired with the jazzy stylings of Swedish vocalist Cecilia Stalin encompassing all of the familiar fizziness of the original with an extra degree of ebullience that’ll leave you yearning to catch them somewhere in person to really soak in this re-fashioned groove. Teen Daze “Let’s Groove” Posted: 04 Jan 2012 02:23 PM PST Too many times of getting prematurely excited over acts releasing songs with familiar titles only to hit play and discover that the track is no cover (and usually sucky in comparison to what we were anticipating) left us a little hesitant to check out Teen Daze‘ “Let’s Groove”, a song that shares the same name as one of the best post-disco jams ever. So after finally getting around to seeing what this was all about while preparing ourselves for a major letdown, you can imagine the off-the-charts excitement that entered our insides from hearing those opening horn stabs, a sign that this cut actually did have something to do with Earth Wind & Fire’s timeless ’81 hit. Expanding on the infectious party-funk feel-good of the original, the British Columbia-based Daze re-edits “Groove” into an even bigger monster of a dance-floor delight, making this the exact type of tune we would love to be engulfed in in our last breaths if 2012 actually did turn out to be the End of Times. Thumbs all the way up, TD.
