Mara Hruby & MeLo-X “The Panties (Slow Down God-Mix)” Posted: 31 Dec 2011 01:03 PM PST Filed under Things We Regret Not Knowing About Fifty-Leven Months Ago But Plan To Seriously Indulge In Now To Make Up For All That Lost Time folder: R&B/ soul up-and-comer Mara Hruby and her late 2010 all-covers set From Her Eyes, in which the songstress takes on cuts from D’Angelo (“Send It On”), Bob Marley (“Is This Love”) and Jamiroquai (“Alright”), among others, and, aided by her soothingly-smoove vocals, makes each sound like the sweetest thing ever. The reason why we’ve (embarrassingly) just now become aware of her: MeLo-X, conjuring some serious buzz over his impressive beat-crafting chops and forthcoming instrumental release Fewture with this ‘Slow Down God-Mix’ remix of Eyes‘ remake of Mos Def’s The New Danger-housed “The Panties”, which finds him transforming Hruby’s dreamy rendition into a foreplay jam bursting at the seams with otherworldliness. Mirroring Mara’s pipes with a hauntingly screwed vocal as a multitude of space-age dub and tribal production elements morph the shape of the track into increasingly wondrous ways damn near every twenty seconds, the five-minute-plus entry feels less like a song than it does an aural adventure to hump to.
