Posted: 21 Dec 2011 11:35 AM PST Move over Miley and Leslie–there’s a new BFFL duo in tween town. 14-year-old Annabella Avery “Bella” Thorne (yes, that does mean she was born in 1997…dear God almighty) is a rising Disney princess who stars on the new hit show, Shake It Up!. (I say “hit” without actually knowing whether it’s a hit–let’s just go with it, okay?) She also has a best friend named Pia Mia. Together, the two have joined girly forces to craft an unapologetically UH-MAZING pop song: “Bubblegum Boy.” Frankly, Willow Smith best be keeping one eye open she goes to sleep at night, ’cause these girls are coming to slay. You see, “Bubblegum Boy” starts off with a siren call, which is important because an alarm in pop music means something AMAZING is about to happen (see: “Ring The Alarm”)–AND OH, HOW IT DOES. “Bubblegum Boy” is what I’d describe as a ‘sassy banga.’ Why? Well, there’s a great deal of both (A) sassy lyricism and (B) banga beats. “I don’t care about what you got/You’re frontin’ cause you know you’re just a…” the girls sassily chant before launching into the banga of a chorus. Now let me tell you something: The chorus of “Bubblegum Boy” is EVERYTHING. It’s a “Whip My Hair”-esque power-punch of a hook that’ll have you shaking and crying into your Lisa Frank trapper keeper within mere seconds. “Bubblegum Boy” will get stuck in your head forever, and then you’ll hate yourself for listening in the first place, and then you’ll secretly add it to your iPod, and then you’ll find yourself talking to a really cute boy at a coffee shop, and then he’ll look down and see that you’re listening to “Bubblegum Boy”, and then he’ll either get down on bended knee and propose to you on the spot or just grimace and walk away. So far I’ve only experienced the latter, but I’m holding out for a hero. BELLA AND PIA ARE COMING FOR WIGS Y’ALL. BYE HATERS!!! “Bubblegum Boy” was released on December 5. (iTunes) |
David Guetta Goes Supernatural for Video Premiere of “Titanium (feat. Sia)” Posted: 21 Dec 2011 10:39 AM PST “Titanium (feat. Sia)”: The best song off of David Guetta‘s 2011 record Nothing But The Beat by a long shot–and now, an official single. The video for the powerhouse uptempo follows a young boy (Ryan Lee, who fittingly starred in Super 8) as he runs from the law E.T. style because he’s hiding something a little–supernatural. It’s one of those videos that starts with a bang and, err, well…no spoilers up in here, but stay tuned up until the very end! Although it’s disappointing that the Aussie alt-diva herself wasn’t featured, the clip still tells a great mini-story that works well with the song. And while it’s still unclear whether or not “Titanium” will be making its way stateside (it would truly be the ultimate pop injustice if not!) the song’s already been serviced to much of Europe, charting within the Top 10 of dozens of countries already. Let’s make this one explode all around the world! “Titanium (feat. Sia)” was released in December. (iTunes) |
MuuMuse Approved: Mylène Farmer – “Du Temps” Posted: 21 Dec 2011 09:31 AM PST Mylène Farmer, for those unfamiliar, is sort of like the French equivalent of Madonna. Since her debut in 1986, the iconic fiery-haired French songstress has gone to sell over 30 million records and snag the record for most #1 singles in France–from 1991′s “Désenchantée,” to her 2006 collaboration with Moby “Slipping Away (Crier la vie),” to last year’s stunning electro gem, “Oui mais…non.” (There’s also my personal favorite, 2005′s “Fuck Them All,” which ended up peaking at #2, but it’ll always be #1 in my heart.) In short: She’s a BFD. On December 5, the singer released 2001.2011, her second greatest hits collection featuring singles from her past three studio albums, along with two new songs. One of which is “Du Temps,” the lead single from the album, which just charted at #8 in France. With its chilly wisps of electronica and Farmer’s signature Enya-like coos, “Du Temps” is an absolutely lush ‘n’ dreamy synth-pop production. Do I know what she’s singing about? Um, something about time. Taking time. And love. That’s all I need to know really! The video for the song premiered last week, featuring a mix of both home videos and a dance routine done while splashing around in some shallow water. (The Saturdays could quite literally never.) Prepare for plenty of fierce Kylie-esque hand choreography! Thanks to Muuser Calen C. for the find! “Du Temps” was released on November 7. (iTunes) |
JoJo Releases Cover of “The Christmas Song,” Remains Flaw-Free and Festive Posted: 21 Dec 2011 06:37 AM PST What’s that? It’s time for a Christmas surprise sung by a flaw-free pop goddess, you say? Well…okay! Earlier this year, the newly legal JoJo (Happy 21st birthday, girl! LOVE YOU!), decided to share a special holiday treat for all her fans by uploading her own cover of the timeless Christmas classic, “The Christmas Song.” In true JoJo fashion, it’s an insanely melodic rendition. So many notes! So many scales! So talented. So go ahead and grab some spiked egg nog (she’s 21 now, y’all!), snuggle under the blankies and listen above as the pop princess utterly decimates the classic–in the best sense of the word possible! Oh Jo…we simply cannot wait for Jumping Trains in 2012. “Disaster” was released on September 6. (iTunes) |
