Let’s be honest, when it comes to a good music video, you really can’t go wrong with uncoordinated dudes trying to sex it up on the dance floor like there’s no tomorrow. <<Ok Go video coming to mind>> So once again, a band has utilized this formula and made a delicious dish of maledancing-con-uncoordinación, add a some ladies who know how to dance, spandex, body hair, sparkle video effects and a bottle of Negro Modelo and you have “Gold Standard”, the latest from Kansas City natives Minden. It’s one thing that the video is priceless, but I am eatin’ this track up like the dollar menu and pumped that their playin Chicago next weekend. There are voices that stop you dead in your tracks, that captivate you from the very first note, Natalie Duncan has that voice and so much more. Natalie grew up in Nottingham, England, the daughter of a Jamaican mother and English Greek father. She and her keyboard, Aretha (aptly named, no?), have played cover sets throughout Nottingham’s bars and clubs, all the while stealthily slipping in her own original tracks. This talented woman and her powerful voice, fueled on a diet of wine and cheese (woman after my own heart!), is now breaking out on her own. She has just begun, Monday to be exact, to record her debut album for Verve Records. She will be hard at work in Bath, England on her debut album, but as these two live and unmastered sessions prove there is a powerful voice, and a trove of beautiful music just waiting to be unleashed. The maestros behind electro’s richest sounds, Goldfrapp, has just announced via Twitter that the dup will be releasing a singles collection in February 2012. The new singles collection will include two new original tracks. The first of which is “Yellow Halo”, which is a beautiful mix of Seventh Tree era’s atmospheric and warm sound with sweepingly epic electro. Of course Allison crystalline voices floats effortlessly about the whole thing.
