Planet VI featuring Cassie “Sex Drugs & Rock N’ Roll” Posted: 17 Dec 2011 06:16 PM PST Putting Konvict Music in their past earlier this year after five years being signed to the Akon label with no album release, underrated R&B-hip hop duo and songwriting/ production team Rock City have re-emerged under new moniker Planet VI, teasing their upcoming project The American Dream (due December 21st) with new track “Sex Drugs & Rock N Roll”. An “edu-taining” warning against the dark traps of “living in the fast lane” where promising rappers lose their way (“Them broads had a n*gga coked out/ He was hot for a moment”) and former prom queens end up stuck living at home with Moms with four kids, a crappy baby-dad and a gig “stripping in Onyx [doing] anything for profit” all set to a bright radio-friendly bounce by producers Tha Bizness, the catchy R&B-pop songcraft on “Sex” provides pretty strong support in the argument of “These cats should have blown up long time ago”. As good as their efforts are here though, Planet IV’s lead act contribution is mostly overshadowed by the hook work of “always on the verge of a comeback” Cassie, the simplistic tone of her vocal perfectly complimenting the summery, The-Dream-esque sunniness of the backing track while introducing our brains to the sudden desire to have Tha Bizness exec-produce her long in-the-making sophomore album.
