[Electronica] Bon Iver – Perth (The Polish Ambassador Remix) Posted: 14 Dec 2011 12:38 AM PST Modern folk star Bon Iver’s delicate acoustic lullaby Perth has been taken by The Polish Ambassador (producer David Sugalski) and turned into a mesmerising electro ballad. Icy synths swirl around the the repetitive guitar line, allowing disjointed vocals to echo across this soundscape, creating something eerily beautiful. [Indie] Youth Lagoon – Goodbye Again (John Demver .cover) Posted: 13 Dec 2011 10:50 PM PST Youth Lagoon (Trevor Powers to his friends) recorded this cover of the late John Denver’s ‘Goodbye Again’ for Sirius XM, and it’s rather unusual piece from Powers. Featuring a sparse piano arrangement and Powers’ vulnerable vocals, ‘Goodbye Again’ is rather different to his lo-fi electronic bedroom jams. It’s an incredibly intense experience listening to this cover version, and will gain Youth Lagoon many new fans. [Electronic] Air – Seven Stars (feat. Victoria Legrand) Posted: 13 Dec 2011 12:51 PM PST French electronic legends Air are set to drop their next record, ‘Le Voyage Dans La Lune’ (‘The Voyage In The Moon') early next year. Judging by ‘Seven Stars’, a collaboration with Victoria Legrand of Beach House, it’s going to be a fascinating homage to George Melies’ film of the same name. ‘Seven Stars’ is a wondrous combination of slow-burning electronics and Legrand’s hazy vocals, creating a hypnotic effect that demands repeated listening. ‘Le Voyage Dans La Lune’ is released on February 6 2012, and we can’t wait. [Electronica] Blackbird Blackbird – Tear Posted: 13 Dec 2011 12:12 PM PST Genrebending artist Mikey Maramag (AKA Blackbird Blackbird) has been putting out new tracks at an astonishing rate, and the San Franciscan has just dropped ‘Tear’, the first single off his forthcoming EP, ‘Boracay Planet’. A blend of electronica and indie-rock, ‘Tear’ is a powerful burst of warmth, with tropical synths and handclaps giving a summery vibe to the song. Metric – Collect Call (Adventure Club Remix) Posted: 13 Dec 2011 11:02 AM PST These boys from Montréal, Canada have taken the dubstep world by storm. Adventure Club was formed early 2011 by local musicians Christian Srigley & Leighton James and already are well established in the dubstep community having release a handful of richly thought out remixes of mostly indie songs. AC has decided to go back to a 2009 classic “Collect Call” of Fantasies, the fourth studio album by Canadian indie rock band Metric. What we have here is another gentle track with light dreamy wobbles that surrounds the original vocals by the wonderful metric lead singer Emily Haines. A satisfying drop and a journey that could even please some of those anti-dubstep fans out there. [Indie] VIRGINS – ‘RGB’ Posted: 13 Dec 2011 09:34 AM PST North Carolinians Saman Khoujinian and Gabriel Anderson are the brains behind VIRGINS, one of the most interesting new bands for quite some time. Their debut record 'RGB' (released November 29) was recorded on a bicycle tour of the US that started earlier this year. Opening track 'Red Green Blue' is a meandering psych-folk track that recalls hazy summer days, whereas the anthemic 'Dolphin' is a much more poppy piece with choral BVs to add to its infectiousness.
