[8 Days of Kicksmas 2011] Favorite Album: The War On Drugs “Slave Ambient” Posted: 29 Dec 2011 01:14 PM PST On almost every level, The War On Drugs have crafted the perfect follow up to ‘Wagonwheel Blues’, their 2008 debut album. An undeniable treasure of expansive rock, 'Slave Ambient' melds the sound of the past, present and future into a 47 minute sprawl that's as euphoric as it is multifaceted and runs steady as my favorite album of the year, pedal pushed to the floor. [8 Days of Kicksmas 2011] Favorite Album: Hoodie Allen’s “Leap Year” Posted: 29 Dec 2011 12:07 PM PST Album, Mixtape, same thing, right? Whichever, Hoodie Allen‘s Leap Year (which is available for direct download here) is my favorite of 2011. Undoubtedly, one of the most exciting and fulfilling moment’s his musical career, and rightfully so. Hoodie began writing Leap Year when he decided to leave his job at Google to follow his passion. The thirteen track album is a look into his world and what it means to step out of one’s comfort zone. He wanted Leap Year to mirror his life and experiences–it's fun, crazy, sarcastic, and introspective– its him growing up on record. When I first posted about Leap Year, I received this note from Hoodie which after you read, you’ll understand the smile I’m still wearing: “I want to quickly emphasize how important having the support of Kick Kick Snare has meant to me. I mean you’ve been a real friend to me man that’s the truth. Any attention I have ever received has been because of the blogs that support me and spread my music all over the world. It's because of your support that I've been able to be this person and that's why to this day I won't ever stop personally emailing you all my new projects.” Be sure to grab your copy here!
