[8 Days of Kicksmas 2011] Favorite Song: Lana Del Rey “Blue Jeans” Posted: 28 Dec 2011 10:53 AM PST Lana Del Rey continues to step into prominence in her florescent vintage style. This self-proclaimed gangsta Nancy Sinatra has been generating a hefty amount of attention through the music community and rightfully so. "Blue Jeans" accompanies her smash single "Video Games” and is the song I’m titling my favorite of 2011. Some say it's a fundamentally insincere love song, and exquisitely languid. But I'd have to disagree. The chorus doesn't expose insincerity, rather someone who's clearly had their heart broken. [8 Days of Kicksmas 2011] Favorite Remix: Kay + Frankmusik ‘Lost The Damn Gameboy Remix’ of ‘My Name Is Kay’ Posted: 27 Dec 2011 04:35 PM PST So this was a tough choice, my head was saying go with Wolf Gang vs. AlunaGeorge ‘Back To Back‘ as it’s INCREDBILE, but my heart was screaming for this remix. So in the end the fact that it has brought more smiles to my face than I can count, has kept me and numerous friends bouncing around house parties, bars, and very compact cars like fools with joy for most of 2011 fueled a twitter love session between me and the bad-ass Novia Scotian herself won out. It has been in every set list since I first heard it and I do not see that changing any time soon. Kay is one to watch kids, a pop powerhouse in the making. If you don’t know Kay, then you are new to KickKickSnare, as we are kinda fans of the brash, confident, and unstoppably energetic rising pop-star. Who’s lead single ‘My Name is Kay’ is full of old school funk, retro hip-hop and 90′s dance house, that at times reminds me of a Gospel choir or a Robyn-esque rap break down. All that raw energy is perfect for a Frankmusik overhaul and to add his signature pop energy to the track. He takes the original version, strips off some of the grit and funk and takes it to a place of absolute digital amazingness – complete with an explosive epic videogame intro. [8 Days of Kicksmas 2011] Favorite Remix: Little Dragon “Ritual Union” (Tensnake Remix) Posted: 27 Dec 2011 02:41 PM PST Hype Machine is obviously a staple in a lot of blogger/music fan’s lives, but I actually didn’t appreciate the genius until about 5 months ago, when I started listening to it non-stop while working my 9-5. This remix was one of my first “just clicking around” finds on Hypem. Now I will preface, as a huge fan of hip-hop, I sometimes see extra genius within a piece, because of the ease in which it could be remixed into a hip-hop track. This remix – I am counting the seconds until someone takes this sample and absolutely DESTROYS IT, (in a way that in no way overshadows the original recording or original remix, but blesses the hip-hop crowd that would not have found this gem of a composition otherwise.) Now, I know most appreciate the original track a little more (listen within this awesome fan-made video), but for me, this is one of those “I heard it first, so it takes precedence” type tracks, this remix is stunning, funky, hard… as my poet neighbor Kevin Kern from the east coast would put it… BOSS.
