So many facets can go into a phenomenal music video, and I think that Waters has suceceeded in utilizing every. single. one of them. I was lucky enough to meet Waters after his show in Chicago a few weeks back, and I asked him how this video came about. He said a friend of his heard the song, and this is what developed in his head…Just watch. Runner up – Art vs Science: Magic Fountain

[8 Days of Kicksmas 2011] Favorite Music Video: Azealia Banks “212″ Posted: 26 Dec 2011 09:28 AM PST My favorite song of the year; maybe. My favorite video of the year; most definitely. The black and white video for 212 perfectly contrasts the playful, pigtailed Azealia Banks and her fantastically filthy break-out single. Amazing. Click here to view the embedded video. [8 Days of Kicksmas 2011] Favorite Music Video: Kimbra’s “Cameo Lover” Posted: 26 Dec 2011 08:30 AM PST New Zealand chanteuse Kimbra gets my vote for favorite music video of 2011 with 'Cameo Lover' off the forthcoming debut album 'Vows'. The songstress opens with a slick "This is non stop baby" and she's damn right. In fact, she somehow manages to jump-start a parade of sounds and choreography that will take over one shoulder at a time. There's just something about Kimbra that locks in my full attention. Oh yeah, it's proper talent. The video was directed by Guy Franklin, produced by Elizabeth Sarsfield and absolutely, positively thoroughly enjoyed by moi. It's a good sign when after only twenty seconds in, you already want to start it over. Kimbra also dropped two smoking hot remixes of her single Cameo Lover courtesy of Dutch producer Shook and Australian G.L.O.V.E.S. available to download below. Kimbra is one of the new artists I'm most excited about. If you aren’t familiar, then I am thrilled to lead you to this talented and cinematic treasure that represents everything Kick Kick Snare stands for. Her talent is undeniably well-rounded, from her music, lyrics, set design, choreography and above all showmanship. Be sure to watch the video above if you haven't already don't forgot to cop the remixes below. Kimbra Cameo Lover (Shook Remix) by viceroyalty |
[8 Days of Kicksmas 2011] Favorite Band/Group: Yelle/Dragonette Posted: 25 Dec 2011 05:30 PM PST
I would continue their praises, but if you have felt an electronic beat or watched a witty comedy since 2009 you know them both. I know every track, have bought every album, I have seen 4 concerts each, in multiple cities. I have never been more proud to see two bands make it. This is why they are my bands of 2011. America watch out, our French and Canadian friends have politely shown us how to have fun. ‘Hello’ ‘Fire In Your New Shoes’ “Yelle on SNL’ Click here to view the embedded video. [8 Days of Kicksmas 2011] Favorite Band/Group: Toro Y Moi Posted: 25 Dec 2011 01:33 PM PST I have been a fan of Chaz Bundik and his team: Toro Y Moi, in the past, but 2011 certainly placed them high on my list of “when there in town I must see them” type bands. I think we all realize that listening to a band via the mp3′s we download is one thing, but being lucky enough to experience a band live, possibly more than once, lets you build a different (usually better) relationship with your love of that artist’s music. This is certainly the case with myself and Toro Y Moi. I was fortunate enough to attend their show at SXSW, by myself, on a roof top that barely fit 100 people, probably 125 was squeezed into this tiny landing. It was the epitome of intimate, the sound kicked ass, the weather was immaculate and it was my first time seeing them. My 2nd time was at Chicago’s Lincoln Hall, there was a little more room to breathe and my dance partner and I took advantage of every inch. Most bloggers are using the term “chillwave” which Mr. Bundick, (along with myself) do not use, I personally describe their sound as electronic, contemporary 70′s funk. It’s dynamic, experimental, fun, sometimes upbeat and danceable, sometimes “chilled out”, regardless of the labels you put on it, Toro Y Moi are EXTREMELY entertaining, and I appreciate the moments they’ve given me in the past year. The first time I ever heard these guys was on their Daytrotter Session, so get down on that. MP3: Saturday Love by Toro Y Moi |
