Enter this seducing “LYD” cover by Brooklyn experi-pop outfit Young Heel to help bring the song back to it’s late-night booty call soundtrack roots. Made dreamily alluring thanks to gauzy harmonic vocals and an ethereal chillwave-y makeover of the original’s slow-churning groove that makes every keyboard twinkle and fingersnap drip with XXX naughtiness, this seasonally-appropriate wintry take on RFTW’s erotic ode to an older woman is sure to spark all kinds of extended boots-knockin’ sessions under the Christmas tree in the coming days. Rye Rye & Akon “Crazy Bitch” Posted: 10 Dec 2011 08:53 AM PST Further defining the vast gap between music lovers on- and off- line in the on-going battle of what good pop sounds like, “Never Will Be Mine”, M.I.A. protégé Rye Rye‘s Robyn-assisted bid for mainstream success didn’t exactly light the charts afire and make the rapper a household name as many had expected, forcing Rye and her handlers back to the drawing board to look for that breakout Top 40 gold elsewhere. Might that luck be possibly achieved with the recently emerged Akon collabo “Crazy Bitch”? Hard to tell at this point, but this leak, which sounds more like a long snippet than finished product, surely tickles our guilty pleasure zone in all the right ways. Powered by a bubblegummy schizo bop highlighted with sunny splotches of horns, handclappy snares, and an acoustic guitar element that hints of both Lil’ Wayne’s “How To Love” and The Commodores’ “Easy”, the Play-N-Skillz-crafted backing track to “Crazy Bitch” offers a thrill of a swing reminiscent of Outkast’s more Crayola-vivid tunes, with Rye and Akon playing hip-pop’s twisted answer to Ashford & Simpson as they attempt to explain the ways of their weird love (a dysfunctional mix of name-calling, cheating accusations, cell phone snooping and, well, hot sex) to outsiders. Sure, the tune serves as one instance where a more radio-friendly term such as “chick” would more than suffice to get the same point across, and the blatant lopsidedness of Akon’s many “crazy bitch”‘s to Rye’s one, lame-in-comparison “right back atcha” deserves a re-write correction, but alongside the breezy summertime charm of the beat, there’s a certain relatable young-adults-in-love sweetness found in these two still digging each other despite the drama (“She ain’t right up in her mind/ But fuck it I ain’t either”) and multiple “bitch”-slinging that warrants it repeat listens. “Crazy Bitch”: Download audio file (Rye-Rye-Akon-Crazy-Bitch.mp3) This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now
