Holy Ghost! @930 Club + Interview + Hold My Breath Remix

Posted: 20 Nov 2011 07:10 AM PST

Holy Ghost! kicked off their very first headlining tour nearly a month ago to a sold out show at the iconic Bowery Ballroom, they are now wrapping up their tour with a few more eastcoast visits. They are coming to the 930 Club on Wednesday with a great group of supporting acts including Jessica 6. It is going to be one hell of sweaty dancey show, and we will be reporting back with pictures and a full review of what I am sure is going to be an incredible show. Kick Kick Snare was also fortunate enough to steal away some time from their very busy touring schedule to talk with Alex about making music and being on tour. You can read the full interview after jump.

KKS Chats with Holy Ghost!

KKS: How has the world of touring been treating you with this last tour?

HG!: Awesome. It’s an awesome world!

KKS: How do you manage all the synths and gear?!

HG!: With a lot of love and patience

KKS: While traveling, touring, DJing and pretty much running none stop how do you keep it fresh? And keep yourself fresh and out of a rundown rut?

HG! I run and eat well. The rest is always fun. I love playing almost every show.

KKS: What city has surprised you with how much they got into the show and vibe of the crowd?

HG!: Chicagooooooooo! So good. And LA was nuts! Portland too and Toronto. I really had a blast everywhere I guess.

KKS: How does the analog sound give you more freedom than the infinite possibilities digital can give you?

HG!: Restraints are good for making stuff. You have to make commitments. With analog gear. There’s no way back once you print in analog.

KKS: How do you make sure that you don't sound like anyone else while still of course being influenced by artists that have come before?

HG!: Ha I don’t know I think we sound like lots of people and I’m not ashamed of that

KKS: What artists have had the biggest influence on you as musicians

HG!: For me David Byrne and Michael Jackson. But recently I saw a opera by Karen O and that changed a lot for me

Thanks a lot to Alex for taking the time to chat with us, and I am definitely looking forward to a great show!

Saint Motel: At Least I Have Nothing

It's time to face facts: we live in an age of aesthetic. It is not enough anymore to simply sound good, put on a good show, or even look good. In a time where kids in Omaha are almost as cool as the newest thing in Brooklyn, the difference between quality and the quantity is holistic: not do I like them, but do I like this? Allow me to introduce Saint Motel and their newest single, "At Least I Have Nothing": "I had such high hopes for the minds of our generation/ if we had some goals we could reach out and take them/ Except we're apart/ no movement to follow/ we are just stuck in some business model" There are synth notes. There's a kick drum. There are lyrics (remember those?). And yes, they're all awesome. These guys look so cool <<insert generic call & response>> …so cool that leaving open the image search window too long might give you frostbite. But if there's anything to be said for the attention to detail that this band is willing to expend on a particular song, it's in the balance. This song is perfect for a long drive alone on a thoughtful night, an intimate party with your wildest friends, blasted from your speakers at full volume or running quietly in the background. You can rage to it, scream along with it, or have a beer by yourself and just enjoy the lost art of saying something with sincerity.

"I'll probably die here/ I probably will/ I'll say again/ I'll scream it from hell/ at least I have nothing."

Enjoy.
