Posted: 10 Nov 2011 09:01 PM PST Oh, my darling Sky Ferreira. The brooding blonde teen beauty hasn’t made too many moves in the music industry since releasing one of the year’s most brilliant albums back in March: The AS IF! EP (read the review if you don’t have it already). But over the past few weeks, she’s been uploading lil’ bits and pieces onto her SoundCloud–some fucking incredible polished pop tunes, some rough and off-the-cuff riffs delivered without a hint of production. Earlier tonight, the Pop Princess published a full track, entitled–well actually, she’s called it “ummmmm (this is old FYI),” which is incredibly helpful for all of us. After a little bit of investigation, I’ve learned the song is actually called “Dynamite State,” co-scribed and produced with a killer Britney-friendly team: Nicole Morier (“Heaven On Earth,” “Mmm Papi”) and inimitable Swedish production team Bloodshy & Avant (“Toxic,” “Piece Of Me”). Regarding the song, she had this to offer:
To no one’s surprise, it’s completely amazing: Starting off with a sort of irritating, child-like chant, the song soon bursts into a thick, noisy marching drum beat as Ferreira gets uncharacteristically (sarcastically?) exuberant: “Come on boys and girls/Let’s blow up the world!” Sky sings excitedly. “We’re dynamite, we’re nuclear/We’re shoot to kill/We’re for the win, so let’s begin!” Later on, sparkling electronic beats explode like actual fireworks and shimmer into the speakers. Production wise, the song is slightly closer in line with the more experimental indie-pop of Bloodshy & Avant’s brilliant band, Miike Snow. Lyrically, it’s as rebellious and youthful as a fire-hot Ke$ha party anthem. Still, “Dynamite State” is as thoroughly Ferreira-friendly as her debut EP: It’s pop peculiarity at its finest, full of intriguing beats, wild yelping vocals and über-infectious hooks. This is yet another reason Ferreira is so frustratingly amazing: There’s so much potential here, yet it’s all so…intangible. She’s one of my most anticipated new acts by far, and her debut record will unquestionably be on Madonna levels of pop genius, but we’re all anxiously waiting for her to actually…POP. Luckily, our prayers are (maybe) about to be answered. She later wrote on the SoundCloud page:
Pop Gods, hear our prayers! LET IT BE SO! ummmmm (this is old FYI) by Sky Ferreira Official The AS IF! EP was released on March 22. (iTunes) |
Lady Gaga Teases First Video Still from “Marry The Night” Posted: 10 Nov 2011 05:18 PM PST Muh-muh-muh-Monsters: Your Mother will see you now. Lady Gaga took to Twitter this evening following her performance of “Marry the Night” at Germany’s 2011 Bambi Awards (an award show I haven’t thought about since Britney delivered her first post-2007 VMA comeback performance back in ’08–memories!) to give her Monsters a tiny taste of the upcoming video and/or mini fïlm for her fifth Born This Way single. Well, she’s laid up on a stretcher it seems. That’s what you get for touring non-stop for 3 years and counting, Gagz! Then again, this is clearly just a shameless swipe of Britney’s video for “Everytime.” (KIDDING! Maybe.) I mean, is that even Gaga? If it is, is she sick? IF SHE’S NOT, IS SHE PREGNANCY?! And if so, will a fanciful unicorn burst out of her vajeen and gallop onto the Rainbow Road?!?! The answer to all of these questions and more, of course, is yes. Feel the fever… “Marry the Night” will be released in November. (iTunes) |
Win A Copy of JoJo’s New Single “Disaster”! (CD Giveaway) Posted: 10 Nov 2011 03:04 PM PST In case you’ve been living under THE WORLD’S BIGGEST ROCK EVER, you already know that Queen JoJo‘s just released a brand new single: “Disaster,” the lead track from her upcoming album Jumping Trains. As I’ve established previously in my review of the single, “Disaster” is an amazing pop song. Thoroughly so. Now, the song can be yours in the physical sense. MuuMuse is proud to be giving away TWO COPIES To enter to win, follow me on Twitter at @MuuMuse and tweet the following phrase:

The Party is in September’s Head (Video Premiere) Posted: 10 Nov 2011 11:39 AM PST Earlier this year, Swedish dance-pop sensation September (of “Cry For You” fame, you know the one) released her fourth studio album, Love CPR–a collection of reliably amazing Swedish dance-pop tracks. But among the album’s many deliciously infectious offerings–including “Resuscitate Me” and “Me & My Microphone”–lies my all-time favorite track of the bunch: “Party In My Head,” which MuuMuse contributor Sam highlighted previously in the second volume of his “Amazing Things I’m Listening to from Sweden” series. “Party In My Head” is thoroughly amazing for several different reasons, including: + The line “I don’t care if the whole club is dead, ’cause the party’s in my head.” Oh, and every single DJ has also been inside me. Following the song’s release to iTunes in late September (SEPTEMBER IN SEPTEMBER, Y’ALL!), “Party In My Head” has now received a proper video treatment, which you can see above. It seems as though September’s gone and gotten a hold of New York City’s broadcasting system to have herself plastered across every screen in Times Square. (Now you know why the federal government did that test of the Emergency Alert System earlier this week.) No one seems to bothered by the fact, though. And why should they? Frankly, I wish that’s how it was in New York City: Can this be real life, so that the next time I’m sprinting down Broadway trying to flag down a taxi in order to catch the last train home, I can look up and smile knowing that September is watching over me like a sweet, sweet guardian Swedish spirit she is? Please let it be, Pop Gods! “Party In My Head (Remixes)” was released on September 27. (iTunes) |
Now Streaming: Listen to Snippets from Rihanna’s ‘Talk That Talk’ Posted: 10 Nov 2011 06:12 AM PST There’s just 11 more days until Princess Rihanna‘s sixth studio album, Talk That Talk, gets unmuzzled and starts talking that talk all over the world. And as we already saw yesterday, the record label has begun serving up listening sessions all week, leading to some mighty exciting album write-ups so far. Today, JustJared posted his own track-by-track review (of the deluxe version, no less!), including a bunch of album credits, lyrics and interesting tidbits about each song’s recording. It’s an absolute must-read. But you know what else surfaced today? THE ALBUM SNIPPETS, for all 11 tracks of Talk That Talk. YOU READY, RUDE BOYS (AND GIRLS)?
I haven’t listened yet because, as I said yesterday, my body is just not physically ready for this. I just need some time. A moment that is mine. Initial thoughts to come… EDIT: My official thoughts, in order: I’M GOING TO DIE. NOW! I JUST CAN’T TAKE IT. JUST GIVE ME A FAN. Leave your thoughts in the comment section below! |
