Posted: 12 Nov 2011 09:27 AM PST “I love you but I really don’t like you”…There are just some emotions that transcend time, geography, and what stage of life one may be in, and these 17 year old artists know how to present these feelings musically like seasoned brit rock veterans. As worded by Neon Gold, [they] “are part of that new wave of ’80s revival outfits bringing danceable shoegaze back to life in a whole new way”. When I pressed play on the video below, from the vintage aesthetic to the beautifully crafted guitar riff that keeps you swaying like the game of Marble Madness (I love me some old school video game references,) I was hooked on this track to the point of foreshadowing another overplayed kickass new wave tune. Their sound – it’s The Drums, FOALS, Two Door Cinema Club, and Bloc Party, perfect music for a warmish day and traveling around Chicago to find a thrift store-winter jacket. Posted: 11 Nov 2011 04:55 PM PST Check out this dope new art-rock/dancehall duo called JOGYO (Dru Barnes and Devi Mambouka) and their song Rude Boy that I’ve just listened to on repeat 5 times and counting. These guys are about to flow, surrendering to the constant change and harnessing it to create a difficult to compare sonic bombast. Reggae and hardcore elements mingle with tribal and folkloric influences while simultaneously calling back to the artists' roots in the African Diaspora and the New York art world. The new video for Rudeboy, directed by Ariel Danziger (Passion Pit, the Dodos, Freelance Whales etc) is available to watch, after the jump. The full ‘Rudeboy’ single including the track ‘Thundacat’ now on Dither Down Records is available to purchase here. MP3: Rude Boy by Jogyo

Strange Talk: Sexual Lifestyle Posted: 11 Nov 2011 03:51 PM PST So my angst is usually short lived, and what it takes to pull me out of my brooding place is a strong cocktail and some bright electro-rock pop. Strange Talk are always happy to oblige. With rippling and glorious pulsing synths, energetic vocals and drums that pound and kick all my cares away. ‘Sexual Lifestyle’ does the job and does it damn well I might add! They are, and continue to be proof that the best electro-rock these days is coming from the sun drenched lands of Oz. The four guys of Strange Talk are hard at work touring and working on completeling their debut album which is due in 2012. Bleeding Knees Club: Teenage Girls Posted: 11 Nov 2011 03:31 PM PST Garage surf’n'punk pop is the best, and only way really, to describe the sound being created by the duo of Bleeding Knees Club. Hailing from Australia’s Gold Coast, they have perfected the sound of reckless abandon and boundless summer energy. Having already received a lot of attention in their native Australia and crashed the shores of the UK they now have their eyes on the US and plan to release an EP here. Their boisterous, reckless, and super catchy garage sound will no doubt be welcomed with wildly swinging and flailing open arms! Lion & the Lotus: We Could Be The Fire Posted: 11 Nov 2011 03:29 PM PST Through the Forest of Forever to strawberries fields we go! The electronic duo Lion & the Lotus traveled from Sydney to my inbox, then from my eardrums to my heart. This collaboration via Vocalist/Producer Katerina Ramirez and DJ/Producer Byron Lewis incorporates a diverse range of instrumentation and styles, fusing sample and beat-based electronica creating a new sound of Psychedelic Dub Soul fit for all audiences. Imagine a tropical electronic soul party à la Cafe Del Mar featuring Def Jam Poetry and you're just starting to get a feel for what they’re putting out there. Their work is a collection of digital samples and soulful harmonies that bring a distinct world feel into the music they are making. Their debut single “We Could Be the Fire” is available to download below, and available to be your fire in this stormy world. MP3: We Could Be The Fire by Lion & the Lotus |
