Posted: 11 Nov 2011 08:51 PM PST After The Weeknd’s damn near instantaneous success within the blogosphere, it’s not much of a surprise that more cloaked-in-mysteriousness acts of a druggy indie urban vein would start making their way into in-boxes with the hopes that they too could become overnight on-line sensations and spark all kinds of Google-based investigations for the tiniest crumbs of info regarding their back story. From the house of HeavyRoc comes One Room, a new enigmatic wonder seemingly built for the sole purpose of creating bloggers’ endless obsession for more details as to the what’s, why’s, who’s and how’s of its configuration. Two cuts have emerged from the possible solo/ possible group act so far, and while we could pretty much bet on most of our interest dwindling once some of its “secrets” make it to light, for the moment, the tracks’ alluringly cryptic sexy-time flavor have definitely succeeded in stealing our undivided attention. “I Want You” patches together awesomely bad, effects-laden wannabe-mack rhymes (“Call me ‘Baby’ like I’m sittin in a high chair…”) and a number of what sounds like The-Dream studio vocal outtakes over a sultry bed of haunting piano to establish a pretty solid naughty mood starter with a spooky twist, while the sex-stank-in-the-air thick “Wait” essentially offers more of the same “loverman hip hop gone American Horror Story” freakiness. |
Posted: 11 Nov 2011 03:51 PM PST A year after kicking off a seemingly never-ending reign over all of pop culture with “Fuck You”, Cee-Lo Green returns to drop what feels like the hundredth single from The Lady Killer (actually the “lead single” from its forthcoming “Platinum Edition” re-release, because artists still don’t care that people hate that sort of a thing) with “Anyway”, and as with most things the bald-headed Southern soul belter attaches his Southern soul belts too, it’s an easy-on-the-ears ditty (co-penned by Rivers Cuomo of all people!!) that manages to feel both old and new at the same time. Here, Green pays tribute to a lover for continuing to stay devoted to him despite some less-than-great attributes: He’s stingy with his money, shows up late for dates, and even ponders over the idea of hooking up with her friends when their relationship hits snafus. And though the record itself carries its own less-than-great elements (the not-quite-right blend of Daft Punk-ian disco grandeur and fist-pump club throb and an overt slickness that makes the song sound like the theme song for some never-aired TGIF sitcom), Cee-Lo brings to the table such an effortlessly charming performance (especially on that mind-sticking hook), you can’t help but still, if not necessarily love, like the tune anyway. The Lady Killer (Platinum Edition) drops November 28th. BONUS: Cee-Lo Green “Inhaler (Miles Kane Cover)” (DL): This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
