[Indie] Cults ft. Freddie Gibbs – Bad Things (Remix) Posted: 17 Nov 2011 10:18 PM PST Indie darlings Cults have collaborated with rap star Freddie Gibbs to remix their album with a hip-hop twist. ‘Bad Things’ is a taste of just how good this project could be. Combining hard and heavy beats with Madeline Follin’s ethereal vocals makes for a delicious contrast. The synth riff on ‘Bad Things’ is incredibly infectious, and like everything else the band has released, will root itself in your brain for days on end. [Pop] Marina & The Diamonds -Starring Role Posted: 17 Nov 2011 10:00 PM PST Ever since she released ‘Radioactive’, it’s been heating up for Marina & The Diamonds as she puts the final touches to her forthcoming sophomore album. A new track, ‘Starring Role’, was leaked earlier today. It’s an icy belter of a track that shows off both Marina’s vocal and lyrical talent, as she tears an unemotional lover to shreds over a minimal pop beat. Here’s hoping that ‘Starring Role’ makes the record. |
[Dubstep] Skrillex and Feed Me – Loud Noises Posted: 17 Nov 2011 08:53 PM PST There’s a little bit of drama surrounding this song. When we first discovered it, Skrillex and Feed Me had credit for putting together this brain rattling, high pitch driven dubstep track. But Tucson producer Tezzeract has just recently claimed it as being his on Skrillex’s website. So we’re not sure what to think right now, but one thing is certain – it’s a cool track. It includes a great blend of melodic build ups and insane drops, and has one of the best samples we’ve heard all year. Not because it’s that good of a sample, but because it’s from Anchorman, which is awesome. [Christmas] She & Him – Christmas Day Posted: 17 Nov 2011 04:36 PM PST After treating us to a ‘Christmas Waltz’ a month ago, cutesy folk pair She & Him are back with ‘Christmas Day’, another cut from their forthcoming Christmas record. It’s the perfect soundtrack for the holiday season, with Zooey Deschanel’s sweet vocals capturing something magical. Expect plenty more festive goodness from She & Him in the run-up to December 25. |
[Video] Hudson – Against The Grain Posted: 17 Nov 2011 04:00 PM PST Australian musician Hudson has dropped ‘Against The Grain’, the first single from his debut EP ‘Open Up Slowly’, which was released all the way back in May. In a collaboration with Hudson, animator Dropbear has created a breathtaking video for the song, featuring the humble pencil. An incredible visual display that complements the indie-pop of ‘Against The Grain’, this clip is sure to put both Dropbear and Hudson on the map. Digitalism – Circles (Dillon Francis Remix) Posted: 17 Nov 2011 03:53 PM PST New remix from Dillon Francis, and no this is not Moombahtoon, just straight up JUMP UP ELECTRO (or so he labels it). The sweet melody of ‘Circles’ first appeared on ‘I Love You, Dude’, Digitalism’s new album released back in June 2011. With a complete new face, a sexy and naughty electro dress, Circles is ready to turn heads once again. Francis charged this with just enough electro without stripping away all the elements that made the original so great. Enjoy! Digitalism – Circles (Dillon Francis Remix) by DILLONFRANCIS |
[Hip/Hop] Chiddy Bang – Ray Charles Posted: 17 Nov 2011 03:22 PM PST Philly’s Chiddy Bang have paid homage to one of music’s greatest with new track ‘Ray Charles’. Produced by Xaphoon Jones and packed with jaunty piano and a real soul vibe with the Motown-style female BVs, it’s an incredibly fitting tribute to Charles. However, the real star of this show is Chiddy’s fast flow, which ticks all the boxes and takes this track to a new level. Chiddy Bang’s debut will be out on February 28, and will feature the sensational ‘Ray Charles’. Chiddy Bang – Ray CharlesDownload audio file (Ray Charles.mp3) |
[Video] MGMT – All We Ever Wanted Was Everything (Bauhaus Cover) Posted: 17 Nov 2011 01:55 PM PST MGMT recently took over LateNightTales, and slipped in their cover of celebrated punk band Bauhaus’ ‘All We Ever Wanted Was Everything’. It’s a great interpretation of the track, and one that stands fine on its own, away from the compilation. Animation artist Ned Wenlock created the video for the track, giving it a sense of timeless Britishness (the old-school red phone-boxes are a delightful touch) but still keeping it contemporary. A brilliant feast for the eyes and ears. |
Two Door Cinema Club – What You Know (Feed Me Cover) Posted: 17 Nov 2011 12:28 PM PST Feed Me aka ‘Spor’ aka Jon Gooch, the dubstep mega producer from UK and part of the Mau5trap family, fed us an astonishing clash between the two distinct worlds, Indie with Dubstep. As dubstep has evolved, a lot of producers have gone hip/hop route, combining aggressive raps with powerful dubstep beats and while at times it provides a great result, it rarely sounds genuine enough. Anyone can create a bridge between genres, but creating a song that pays tribute to the original requires a technical ability few can pull off.
