We All Want Someone To Shout For

Serenades – Oceans

Posted: 07 Nov 2011 10:58 PM PST

“Oceans” is some proper Swedish pop from Serenades the duo of Adam Olenius (Shout Out Louds) and Markus Krunegard. There’s just something about Swedish pop that stands out from the rest. Serenades capture the essence of this feeling and hit it out of the park.

It’s a sunny song that is a few months late, but it’s good enough to warm you up through the impending cold. It’s taken from their upcoming debut EP, Come Home, which is out everywhere on November 15 via Cherrytree Records.

Hit the jump for a free mp3 of “Oceans”, as well as it’s summer inspired music video.

[new]: Cloud Nothings – No Future/No Past

Posted: 07 Nov 2011 10:38 PM PST

“No Future/No Past” is the new single from Cloud Nothings. Immediately upon playing it you will notice that it has a raw abrasive nature that calls to mind early Weezer/Nirvana. It’s a great turn for the band who sounded just fine the way they were on their debut. But this is some next level stuff, that takes them on a darker, emotional turn. And I’m all for it.

It’s gonna be on their upcoming new album, Attack On Memory, out January 24th, via Carpark Records. Download a mp3 of “No Future/No Past” below:

Girls Announce New Single: Lawrence

Posted: 07 Nov 2011 11:38 AM PST

Girls have announced a new single titled “Lawrence” that they will release stateside on December 6 (U.K. fans will get it on November 28). The single was recorded as a gift for Lawrence Hayward, the frontman of Felt. The single will be on limited edition heart-shaped red vinyl, via True Panther.

Girls’ lead singer Chris Owens explains his motivation for the single in a letter to Lawrence Hayward:

I once wrote this song and wondered what you would sing to it, I could sometimes hear your voice but I didn’t dare write down any words. I never thought for a second you would ever hear it, I wondered if you would like it, all that. I called it Lawrence, after you. To send it to you now is incredible for me, I want to show you I’m thankful. You gave me something to love, or in other words you gave me love itself. You took something that can sometimes feel so common and dull and brought it back to life with so much beauty and verse. You gave me happiness, and you still do.

If you’re a Girls fan, make sure you get your hands on that vinyl. That’s as cool as they come. There’s nothing quite like physical formats. Pre-order the single here.

Drake – Take Care (Feat. Rihanna) (Samples Jamie XX)

Posted: 07 Nov 2011 11:23 AM PST

Drake is very hit and miss for me (more of the latter), but when I heard that he was working with Jamie XX, even I was impressed. Drake’s new album Take Care has leaked, and I just heard the title cut which features Rihanna, as well as a sample of Jamie xx's remixed Gil Scott-Heron track "I'll Take Care of You”.

I gotta say, this is a pretty solid track. One that I just may go back to from time to time:

Here’s another album track called “Crew Love”, that features The Weeknd:

[watch] // [new]: Lana Del Rey – Off To The Races

Posted: 07 Nov 2011 10:59 AM PST

Lana Del Rey kicked off her UK tour at The Ruby Lounge in Manchester over the weekend. She debuted a new song titled “Off The Races” that takes a different direction from “Blue Jeans” & “Video Games”. It’s pretty good, and it makes me even more excited to hear her next official single, “Born 2 Die”.

Watch her play “Off To The Races” below:
