Die Antwoord: Fok Julle Naaiers Posted: 08 Nov 2011 11:05 AM PST Tell Die Antwoord their material needs to be reworked for more mainstream appeal and guess what? They’ll give you the same dedication they just gave Interscope. The interesting part of this story is that DA have pretty fancy lawyers, so taking chairman Jimmy Iovine to the ring of a WWF-style smackdown isn’t something Ninja and Yo-Landi would shy away from. The futuristic rap-rave crew from South Africa have a new album slated for a January release titled, TEN$ION, with a global tour kicking off in February. I’m not going to lie, I’m a hug fan of their fresh ZEF style, and the lead single, titled Fok Julle Naaiers (“Fuck you all,” loosely) does not disappoint. Certainly not for the light-hearted nor those nor those who would accept a million dollar guarantee to sacrifice complete creative independence. Check out the video below that’s already gone viral and expected to gain somewhere around two million views within a few months, and cop the DRM-free, spreading-encouraged track if you can handle the ZEF. More details are expected soon and you’ll find them all here.

[VIDEO PREMIERE] The Sound of Arrows: Wonders Posted: 08 Nov 2011 09:00 AM PST Click here to view the embedded video. Kick Kick Snare favorite The Sound Of Arrows have just given us another otherworldly and epically beautiful mini cinematic experience with the video for their new single ‘Wonders’. Fresh off releasing their incredible debut album on Monday and in the run up to their Human Error Presents: show Friday night with VISITOR, The Fear of Tigers and Queen of Hearts this only fuels my love for them. There are no other acts out there creating such supremely beautiful, epic, completely enveloping dream-pop. Their album really is worth a download and I assure you is great from start to finish and even after a few continuous looped plays!

Phenomenal Handclap Band: Following Posted: 08 Nov 2011 07:23 AM PST Phenomenal Handclap Band rose to fame with their incredible dance-hall funky disco track ‘15 to 20‘, which to this day still makes me crave Blondie in their heyday. The group is following up their cosmically disco-funk filled debut album with a new LP. The first single off the upcoming album the ‘Following’ is a clear indicator of where their sound is headed next. The new album is a bold leap for their sound, keeping that disco-funk at its core, it stealthily incorporating new wave, progressive pop and left field dance pop to create a sound that is just as dancey and infectious but with a harder, darker edge. [VIDEO] Architecture in Helsinki: W.O.W. Posted: 08 Nov 2011 06:55 AM PST Click here to view the embedded video. Architecture in Helsinki are back to follow up their indie summer hit ‘Contact High‘ with the equally amazing ‘W.O.W.’. The track takes their twee-pop charm and sound, saturates in 80′s/new wave that is made complete by Kellie’s super sweet vocals. The video for ‘W.O.W.’ is weird, beautiful, funny, and touching all at once. Architecture in Helsinki are touring the US right now, and are show not worth missing so check out the tour dates below and if they are coming to your town you should really go buy tickets right now. 11/9 — Tallahassee, Fla. @ Club Downunder Architecture in Helsinki Official |
Posted: 08 Nov 2011 06:26 AM PST In a time when the ladies still seem to dominate the pop world Matthew Trahan is a strong indicator that boys maybe be down but are definitely not out! The Chicagoland duo, made of producer Johnny Lawson and singer Matt Trahan, are crafting amazing pop that is an intoxicating mix of italo-disco, electro-pop, house, dream-pop, and hip-hop. That varied of influences could overwhelm the sound for some, but Lawson and Trahan have an incredible talent of mixing and layering sonic styles together in one track in ways you would never expect – like sweeping and swirling dream-pop synths over percussive drumline beats. Wide sampling and mixing of such varied sounds only works because it’s all glued together by Matthew’s pitch perfect vocals. He has an easy and cool, distinctively textured voice. There are times he reminds me of Will Young while having the power of Frankmusik and the easy cool vibe of Penguin Prison. Lawson’s music and Trahan’s vocals come together to create an irresistible sound that honestly has had an unshaken grip on me since first hearing it. Listen to Matthew Trahan’s debut single ‘Siren’ below along with two other of my favorite tracks from Two Weeks Notice Pt. 1. The EP is being offered up for free by the guys at their Facebook page. Be sure to get yourself a copy. ‘Siren’ – An inescapably seductive groove that is part hip-hop, R&B and Italo-disco ‘This and That’ – An infectious bouncy Italo-disco/hip-hop blend ‘Gravity’ – Dark and sweeping electro-pop Matthew Trahan SoundCloud This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
