Alvin and Lyle – The Good Feeling

Posted: 07 Dec 2011 06:48 PM PST

Alvin and Lyle sent me a really chill of theirs track called “The Good Feeling”. The title speaks the truth. It’s a feel good funky jam that makes retro sound really fresh. Washed out synths, deep bass and mesmerizing vocals do the trick.

Not much is known about these guys as this is literally their first release, but their soundcloud page says that they’re from Luxembourg. Their email said that they got together following encouragement from family and friends. Look out for an EP soon.

Laurie Cameron – Christmas (Baby Please Come Home) // One Christmas Fall

Posted: 07 Dec 2011 05:53 PM PST

Christmas music isn’t my thing. Sure, I’ll listen to some the week of the holiday, but that’s about it. Any other time it’s just overkill. I don’t mean to be a kill joy, it’s usually just not my thing. Every now and then I’ll soften up a bit and give some stuff a chance, usually in the form of a good cover or a classic cut (Bing Crosby anyone?) that is hard for even me to hate on. Laurie Cameron did both.

Laurie Cameron is a talented young woman from Scotland that I posted about a while back. Laurie is actually a friend of mine, but that’s not why I’m sharing her music with you. She’s extremely talented, and deserves to be noticed.

She just released two songs that put a refreshing twist on the Christmas genre. One is an actually tolerable version of “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)”, the other is an original called “One Christmas Fall”. Both are delicate showcases for Laurie’s beautiful voice, and something that I wouldn’t mind hearing during snowfalls like the one I’m experiencing tonight.

Watch the video for “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home” below, and head here to listen to “One Christmas Fall”.

If you like what you hear, buy the single from Laurie right here.

Sleigh Bells Reveal Reign Of Terror Details

Posted: 07 Dec 2011 02:53 PM PST

Last week Sleigh Bells gave us a video teaser of a new album called Reign Of Terror. Now the band has given us the dirt on the new record.

It will be released on February 14th, 2012 via Mom + Pop Music. Guitarist Derek Miller produced the album, just as he did for their debut.

Check out how a press release described the album below. It sounds pretty intense.

Songs on Reign of Terror are as crushing and authoritative as their title suggests; they're effortlessly robust and heavier than any of the band's previous output, but more melodic as well, the sonic equivalent of a beautiful shotgun to the head. Packed densely with stomping beats, shredding Jackson guitar riffs, sinister ribbons of Alexis Krauss' candy-coated vocals, and the cries of a pep rally gone terribly wrong, Reign of Terror is a record that, like its predecessor, redefines everything you think music can be.

Try not to get excited.

[watch]: The Black Keys On Colbert

The Black Keys
stopped by Stephen Colbert’s show and performed “Lonely Boy” & “Gold On The Ceiling”. The real gold can be found in the interview they do with Colbert. It’s a funny conversation, worth a watch purely for their reaction to Colbert’s question about groupies. Awkward in the best way possible.

Watch all three clips after the jump. The sound people at SNL really need to take note of this performance.

[new]: Tennis – Deep In The Woods

“Deep In The Woods” is the b-side to Tennis’ “Origins” 7″ release, which came out yesterday via Forest Family Records. They released a somewhat disturbing music video for the song, which is available to watch below thanks to Rolling Stone. The song shows even more promise for their new album Young & Old (out Feb 14 via Fat Possum).
