Rihanna featuring MeLo-X “Cockiness (The Royal Penis Is Clean Mix)”

Something told us that “Cockiness (Love It)”, from Rihanna’s new Talk That Talk, would become a go-to freestyle favorite among rappers (because A: the song is nasty, B: it comes supplied with many vocal hooks to re-purpose into new choruses , and C: Bangladesh produced it, and when have one of his beats NOT been endlessly remixed for everybody, their mama’s, step-daddies and mailmen to rhyme over); the only question was really who would pump out one first.

Beating the usual suspects (our bets were placed on Rick Ross having “firsties”) comes this “Royal Penis Is Clean” take from Brooklyn multi-talent MeLo-X who answers Rih’s awesomely senseless request to “suck my cockiness/ lick my persuasion” by encouraging her to grab his “mic” and “give me your hardest bars like a struggling rap artist” while later tossing this very to-the-point nod to fellow naughty-minded TTT track “Birthday Cake”: “When I’m done/ Suck the skin off my birthday snake”.

Snoop Dogg & Wiz Khalifa featuring Juicy J “Smokin’ On”

The latest leak to emerge from the soundtrack to Snoop Dogg and Wiz Khalifa‘s “Cheech & Chong gone hip hop” flick Mac & Devin Go To High School, “Smokin’ Out” is like all the other material we’ve heard from this project so far: it doesn’t set out to re-write rules or blow minds as much as it wants to be comfort food for the more general fans of the two emcees behind it.

So we get the blunt brothers doing their usual, hyping their next level weed supply (“Smokin’ on some shit called ‘I Don’t Know’”) and better-than-you pimp status (“My ballin’ is actually”), this time with a Southern twist: Producer Drumma Boy brings the larger-than-life drama with a trunk-rattling bump and nod-worthy horn fanfare on the chorus, while Juicy J further strengthens the track’s Memphis flavor with a final verse that features him boasting of being so damn high “Niggas think I’m Chinese cause my eyes straight”.

A decent enough cut, but nowhere near an essential part of any of the artists involved respective catalogues.

The Mac & Devin Go To High School Soundtrack drops December 13th.

Telephoned “Good Call” (Mixtape)/ “A Very Telephoned Christmas” (Mixtape)

So what we’re a little bit late in discovering Good Call, the third mixtape goodie from NY cover/ mash-up-maticians Telephoned that was originally released waaaaay back in September; all that really matters is that the duo of DJ-producer Sammy Bananas and singer Maggie Horn, currently working on some all-original material, still have that magic touch when it comes to splicing together tunes from opposite ends of the music spectrum into dancefloor ecstasy.

The Tom Tom Club, Theophilus London, Nicki Minaj, Best Coast, Kelly Rowland, Drake, Frank Ocean, Twin Shadow and Tina Turner are just some of the names (that we can make out at least) on this seventeen-track set to have their music get sent through the Frankenstein-ian Telephoned machine.
